ABA LUOSTARINEN
I am a glass and ceramic designer living and working in Mallusjoki, Finland. I design and manufacture series and unique pieces as commissions. I can also design brochures and packages that go together with the products.
My basis is that the product is responding to a need. I aim to create craftwork with long-living practical and aesthetic qualities. For me it doesn't mean flawless uniformity and clinicality. I want the energy of making to show in a finished piece and I believe that the idea and appreciation that the product is made with passes on to its receiver.
Ecological working methods and use of materials are important and natural to me. In practise that means for example preferring safe, domestic and recycled materials and using materials and kilns sparingly and appropriately. I am also interested in firing ceramics with wood kilns, that for me is especially inspiring with both process and results. By firing this way the piece will get a unique and characteristic mark and the result is more than one's creation.
